Now, I don’t really associate Flo Rider with good music, per say. In fact, the ONLY line from that is omitted from the chorus is the actual line “when he plays piano in the dark”. Please note that the lyrics were slightly modified for I Cry, but for the most part the chorus is recreated word for word, taken is directly taken from Brenda’s Top 10 hit Piano in the Dark. That being said, upon hearing her staple hit, I realized that I have heard the song many times and had no idea what I was actually listening to. ![]() Ok, that’s being extremely generous seeing as I had NO idea who this woman was prior to my recent introudction. In 1988, Brenda bestowed upon us a song that would forever change the face of modern music. A soulful R&B vocalist who rose to prominence a few years before my time, Brenda immediately grabbed my attention from the moment I heard her sultry vocals. Let’s carry on…Īnother artist that Theresa was gracious enough to expose me to is a song-bird by the name of Brenda Russell. It inspires me on so many levels.īut, as much as I would like to get swept away in a tangent regarding the electric lioness that is Miss Taylor Dayne, she is not the subject of todays blog and I think we all learned a lessons after my last entries Robin Thicke debacle. I’m so very thankful to Theresa Pedone (the OWNER of Pie, Oh My! Cleveland, mind you) for being the amazing friend that she is and bestowing this treasured knowledge upon me. The fact that I, a 30 year old gay man with a taste for 80’s classics, had been DEPRIVED of this songbird for as long as I was is absolutely unacceptable, to say the least. ![]() Tell it to my heart, Taylor Dayne… Tell me I’m the ONLY one. I’ve been introduced to many a gay icon whom I had somehow overlooked prior, something that I am both embarrassed and ashamed to admit. The few random readers who dare return to Fizzy Bubbles have requested that I expose myself to song-choices that, up until now, I have yet to experience for myself. One of the greatest gifts that’s spawned from running a blog about classic pop music is the excessive amount of music requests and suggestions that have come from my DIE-HARD fans.
